Our Week in Review

Wow...what a busy week. We are making the most of school testing by adding lots of hands on fun! We made these cute planters.  Thanks again for sending in those two liter bottles. We planted grass seed in our planters and hope to give them haircuts before school ends.

We planted corn and sunflowers in our kindergarten garden.
Just ignore the fact that I am leveling the dirt with a snow shovel. Use what you have makes a good life lesson.

Thanks Ms. Katrina for lending a helping hand.

We reviewed our addition and subtraction facts using McDonald's  fry containers and paper french fries. Thanks to the McDonald's in Christiansburg for donating the containers. (unit from Smedley's kindergarten)

We had Mexican Math this week as well.  We played Mexican music and danced around to solve math problems.

We ended our fun with chips and salsa!

Everyone enjoyed flower math.

I got some sweet gifts this week. My class really knows how to make a teacher feel loved! I received a couple of sweet love notes, a letter bracelet and a hand painted bird house.

This will be my last regular blog post for the year. I will be working hard on our end of the year slide show.
I hope you have enjoyed seeing what we have been up to this year. Thanks for all of your support and sharing your wonderful children  with me.

Our Week In Review

I got lots of sweet gifts this week for teacher appreciation. I have the best job ever!  Thanks for making me feel so special.
"I love my teacher because she has chicks."

We had lots of fun with math this week.

We brushed up on our subtraction with some whole group word problems.

We made up our own word problems using rubber duckies.

We reviewed our numbers with shaving cream.

During literacy centers we stamped out some math problems.

On Tuesday we sent 16 of our  feathered friends to their new home.  We all took turns holding them.  Just look at my kiddos faces.  Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words!

We celebrated our Moms, Aunts and Grandmas this week with a directed drawing. (unit from Helloblueskies)

We are becoming plant experts.  Look how our beans are growing!

Our new bulletin board about makes me want to cry.  I can't believe how fast this year has gone. Don't forget to send in your RSVP for our end of the year slide show. Warning...tissues are a must.

Have a great weekend.
Happy Mother's Day!

Our Week In Review....Chick Edition

What an exciting week we had in kindergarten! We started off the week by taking our eggs out of the egg turner and gently placing them back in the incubator. Little did we know that we would have our very first chick the next afternoon.  Chick number one hatched on Tuesday after the students had gone home.  By Friday afternoon we had 19 chicks!!!

I would like to thank The Floyd County Retired Teachers Association once again for providing the funding for this special project.

Here is our first little feathered friend.

The chicks quickly out grew their tub and we had to send Mr. Craighead on an emergency tub run.

They  are so happy in their new bigger home.

The students took turns reading to our babies.  We are going to have a bunch of smart little chicks!

We spent lots of time observing our new additions.

We celebrated our new arrivals with some "chick" cookies and by doing the "chicken " dance.

We had LOTS to write about this week.

"We had 18 chicks hatch."
"I love chicks."

"I will buy a chick."

Some of the students made pretend chicken coops out of blocks.

Just look at these cute babies!

Our school will be starting raised gardens soon.  Kindergarten will have our very own garden.  We will be planting corn and carrots.  We started our seeds this week.

We also started a worm farm to observe and planted some bean seeds to watch sprout.

Our sunflowers that we planted a couple of weeks ago are growing fast.  We transplanted the flowers into separate cups.  We will also add these to our school garden.

We did a little "monkeying" around with addition and subtraction.

We had math outside on the tennis courts.  We soaked up some sun and practiced our math at the same time.

This week was so special.  We look forward to watching our new feathered friends grow in the days to come.

Have a wonderful week!
