Our Week Of Learning

We had a wonderful FULL week of school. We packed a lot in those five days.  We finished up our unit on American Symbols. We made a Statue of Liberty and a Liberty Bell. (Activities from American Symbols unit by Teacher To The Core)

We also learned about the White House.

We reviewed out facts about Abe Lincoln and made his black top hat out of two types of cookies. YUM!

Our classroom grocery store has been a huge hit.  We are having  fun and learning! Just the way I like it.  Thank you to all the parents who sent in empty containers.

We conducted a penny experiment. We discovered how the Statue Of Liberty turned from a copper color to the green color she is now.( Activity from Mrs. Jump's American unit.)

We had some special visitors this week.  Some high school students came by to share how to stay healthy and active. This was part of the Floyd Moves promotion.
Mr. Craighead stopped by to read us a Dr. Seuss book for Read Across America month.

We enjoyed dressing up for Twin Day!

Don't forget to read 100 minutes each week. We are adding to our minutes at school as well.

Friday was Digital Learning Day.  We used Skype to connect with Ms. Boyd's first grade class at Indian Valley and with Mrs. Bauserman's first grade class from Ashby Lee Elementary School located in Shenandoah County. It was super exciting and we look forward to connecting with them some more.

Don't forget Friday, March 20th is read my shirt Day!

Our Short Week In Review

We kicked off Read Across America on Monday.  We will be having lots of Dr. Seuss fun this month. Don't forget to read daily and log those minutes.  Our goal is to read 100 minutes every week in the month of March. Snow days make wonderful days to read!

We enjoyed a Dr. Seuss concert by Randolph Walker.

We played lots of money games in math. I will be setting up our classroom grocery store this coming week.  Thank you to all of the parents who have sent in empty containers and boxes for our store.

We finished up our unit on Abe Lincoln and George Washington.

Don't forget about our Spirit Fridays!

I got some "EGG"citing news on Wednesday.  I was awarded a grant from the Floyd County Retired Teachers Association.  I will be using this grant to purchase an incubator and supplies for hatching chicks.  We will be starting this project soon!

Our LOVELY Week In Review

We had a terrific week together. It was full of hearts, love and learning.

Thanks to Mr. Craighead we had a 6 foot 4 inch Abe Lincoln to color. (yes, that was his true height)

We compared our height to his.

We read  Abe Lincoln's Hat and wrote about what we would keep in his hat.

"If I had Abe's hat, I would put a cookie inside." Jamie

" If I had Abe's hat, I would put a TV inside." By Colton

Hanna built  Abe Lincoln out of blocks.

Look at all of my girls looking sweet and pretty in pink!

Doing a little candy heart addition.

Great team work with the blocks!

The weather was a little chilly a couple of days so we practiced our dance moves with gonoodle.com.

We had a LOVELY valentine's day.

Look at these cute "love bug" cupcakes Laiden's Mom made. So cute and yummy!

We had to say goodbye  to one of our school family members Friday.  She will be attending Floyd Elementary. We wish her the best. She will be missed.
